Radio silence on my part for the last week, not because I didn't have anything ready to go but because I was in a state of anxiety over my beloved doggo Mr. Duke. He spent all last week back and forth from the vet, he wasn't eating/drinking, couldn't keep anything down but after many a test he is on antibiotics and on the mend. PHEW. I was basically a mess. Also, to anyone with a pet, PET INSURANCE, my saving grace after getting a $700 vet bill.
So after all the nice weather we had and the mass melting it's gotten cold again. Sigh, it was bound to happen as it is still February and I am in Alberta. So it's back to 2 layers of tights, sweater dresses and wool jackets, but I tell you we're getting closer to spring. I can almost smell the floral prints! Transition seasons are always my favorites; there is the same thrill seeing the buds coming alive as there is in seeing the leaves change colours. Until then though, I am going to enjoy wearing big cozy sweaters and sipping hot drinks with my cuddly puppy.

Winter Workout Buddy
Tuesday, February 21, 2017
An ode to my winter workout buddy, Mr. Duke. He is my everyday workout buddy, but in the winter I find it just that much harder to go outside. Anyone who knows Duke, knows he too hates the cold, is a total baby about it. But just because it's winter doesn't mean he doesn't have energy, so we have to burn it off together by braving the elements and get outside.
Often times, this means finding a set of stairs and going up and down as many times as we can manage. Or hitting up the dog park, chasing each other, playing fetch and exploring the paths around there. I am always so grateful and happy once we've gone out, and would not get out nearly as much without this adorable guy.
So anyone thinking of getting a dog and looking at increasing their steps, definitely the best way to do it. Taking the doggo out on an adventure is my all time favourite way to max out my steps

Ice Queen

Outfit: Sweater-Garage, Jacket/jeans-Dynamite, Scarf-Winners, Boots-Nine West, Hat-MEC, Sunnies-Red Ribbon, Ring-Vintage and miss boss.
Last weekend we decided to check out the ice castle, it was beautiful, but if I'm being honest, it was overpriced. And there was not a lot in there, just a ton of screaming kids and people taking photos (ahem,...yes myself obviously included). It really did serve as a magical backdrop for these photos though. And it was warm out so getting to be outside always makes me happy.
This blush jacket is my current obsession, I want to wear it all the time, always, with everything. Thankfully the weather has been cooperating and it's been nice enough to wear it. I love the blush tones, grey and blues all together. It's a colour combination that just makes me happy, & isn't that the whole point? Clothes can reflect or change your mood!

Circuit Training
Wednesday, February 15, 2017
Circuit training is so much fun and a great way to get your sweat on. It gets your heart rate up and involves little rest between movements to keep that heart rate elevated. This is a fun circuit I've given some of my clients, since the reps are high we keep it to lower weights or body weight.
Circuit:
1. Rotational Ball tosses 15 reps per side. Feet are shoulder distance apart, hold ball in hands rotate torso towards the wall throw the ball towards wall in an explosive manner. Catch ball rotate away and come back. Should be an explosive, fast movement, takes some getting used to with the pattern, keep core tight and head up.
2. Ball slams 15 reps. Bring ball overhead slam it down as hard as you can keeping torso upright and core tight. Squat down to retrieve it keeping proper squat form (feet shoulder distance, head and chest up)
3. Row with sled 15 reps. Feet shoulder distance apart keep knees slightly bent, pull sled towards you keep elbows in and shoulder relaxed. Take a step back and repeat.
4. Split Stance Jump squat 10 reps per
Start in a staggered stance, bend into both legs explode in the air landing soft ensuring the knees aren't buckling inwards or outwards. Repeat.
5. Squat to press 20 total. Sink into your hips squeeze your bum to come to standing and press weight up, bring it down in both hands to one shoulder, sink down and press up to opposite side.
Recipe: Tomato Basil Soup
Monday, February 13, 2017
Tomato soup is a classic, reminds me of being a kid and it so delicious. Paired with a grilled cheese, some whole wheat crackers or just on it's own, perfect thing to warm you up. This recipe is way better than any canned variety and significantly less sodium too.
Ingredients:
3 lb tomatoes
1 package fresh basil
1/4 cup olive oil
1 large yellow onion
3 cloves of garlic minced
4 cups reduced sodium chicken stock
2 T crushed red peppers
1 T ground pepper
1 can tomatoes, low sodium
Directions:
1. Slice tomatoes into quarters and top with pepper and couple T olive oil on a pan. Cook in the oven for 45 minutes at 400 degrees F
2. Chop onions into small pieces, sautee with the rest if the olive oil with crushed pepper and garlic.
3. Once the onion starts to brown, add in canned tomatoes and roasted tomatoes
4. Add in the chicken stock, bring to boil cover for 30 minutes
5. Place in food processor until smooth and remove
ENJOY! This is definitely my favourite soup recipe I've made so far

Over it

Outfit: Sweater/Jacket-F21, Jeans-Old Navy, Necklace- Eliasz and Elizabeth, Chocker-Bamboo ballroom and Noul, Boots-Spring, Ring-Miss Boss, Purse-Calvin Klein
It's official, I am over winter. I'm cold, its grey, all my clothes are neutral and boring. And it probably won't be over till March for us. SIIIIGH. I guess I'll just work with it. I got about 3-4inches of my hair chopped off to freshen things up, shake it up with how the weather's been lately. And my mood. So since my hair's changed the weather can now any minute.
I got a ton of clothes from some of my fabulous girlfriends who were purging their closets this fall and it's been very helpful in me not shopping as much. It's exciting to get something "new" even if it's just new to you. Like this coat from Lysndsey or countless items taken from Vickie's closet, both of whom have wicked style so mixing their pieces in with mine was perfect. I am trying not to go crazy and purchase things I don't need, making a conscious effort to save where I can!
Anyone else being frugal lately?

Exercise Is Medicine
Monday, February 6, 2017
There's a huge new movement called Exercise is Medicine, this is an interdisciplinary movement of health professionals (doctors, physios, personal trainers) who are coming together to promote exercise instead of (or in addiction to) medications. This approach is gaining momentum and becoming recognized by more professionals, organizations and disciplines. It has been obvious to some for a long time that traditional methods of treatment for certain injuries, mental health issues, and diseases aren't always enough. Also, the fact that a simple exercise regime can do amazing things such as:
This is fact based, study proven evidence of the effects of exercise and how bad inactivity can be for us in the long term.
Okay, so exercise helps in all these different multifaceted health issues, so why aren't we prescribing exercise in the way we prescribe pills? Well, we are starting to and that is amazing! It is a huge passion of mine to help people live better, longer and much healthier lives. If myself and other health professional can help someone decrease their medication, feel less anxious or reduce other health risks I am happy.
There are lots of people out there who want to sell exercise as a means to look a certain way, I want to sell exercise as a means to FEEL a certain way. This push for exercise is medicine is just that, let's help people manage their preexisting diseases, let's lower their risk for developing other issues, and live a healthier life.
Let's do this together! #exerciseismedicine

Grey Days
Thursday, February 2, 2017
Outfit: Sweater-Garage, Jacket-Gift, Necklace-Saraswati designs, Purse-Rebecca Minkoff, Jeans-Dynamite, Boots-Nine West, Ring-Vintage & Miss boss.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, my mood for dressing is totally influenced by the weather. Now that the temps have dipped again and it's grey out, I'm decked out in greys. One thing I've learned about monochromatic dressing is how textures play a huge role in breaking the pieces up. I may be wearing two grey pieces on top of one another but the have different patterns and that makes them pop. I've had this sweater for a few years and it is super lived in and I still love it. It's just so damn cozy, who doesn't like a super oversized lived in sweater?
While going all grey I did have to sneak in a pop of colour with a red lip. What can I say, I need to get my fix of vibrancy in there somewhere. This for me was the perfect casual outfit, more comfortable even than my lulus and I felt way more put together which makes a huge difference.
