Recipe: Italian sausage zoodles
Wednesday, August 31, 2016
I am OBSESSED with my spiralizer I got for my birthday (big shout out to darcy's sister & her husband). I can't stop, won't stop making oodles of zoodles. Literally first thing I did last week after getting it was buy and specialize 6 zuccini's. You can also get a hand held version that's cheaper but this version is really fun to work with. So I'm basically taking all my pasta recipes and turning them into zoodle recipes, they're a great option if you're going low carb.
Ingredients:
2 hot italian sausages
10 small tomatoes (I used orange but you can use red or yellow)
6 medium sized zuccini's spiralized into zoodles
4 gloves garlic
1 small package mushrooms
1 package fresh basil
2 tbsp chili pepper flakes
1. Chop up garlic into small pieces, heat up oil in pan and saute garlic
2. Once it's fragrant keep heat on medium and add in hot Italian sausages chopped into small chunks. Once that's cooked through add in mushrooms, basil. Smash the tomatoes up and add them in so becomes a little thicker
3. Add Zoodles to this and toss it with the mixture, cook for about 3-5 minutes to ensure zoodles are cooked through.
4. Garnish with chili flakes and more fresh basil

Remember when I said I was obsessed with blush tones? I guess this is just a continuation of that full blown obsession, and with such few weeks left in summer I am squeezing every ounce I can out of this. Plus I am totally all over the 60's vibes this piece is giving off. Add a little winged eyeliner, big hair but keeping the jewelry more simple and modern for balance worked perfectly.
I honestly hope our weather smartens up and get's warmed for an indian summer so I can wear this adorable romper a few more times. It is incredibly comfortable and I really love the colour with my summer glow going on.

So Long Sweet Summer

Outfit: Shorts-Garage, Top-F21, Shoes-Keds, Watch-Fossil
I have been wary about the high waisted shorts with crop tops for a couple summers now. It's a cute look but I didn't want to look like a teenager; also I'm not a waif so I didn't know if it would be something I'd like on my more muscular physique. I am totally digging it with this look though, surprisingly. I love when you try something outside your comfort zone and it ends up working in a good way.
I found this crop top earlier this year & couldn't wait to wear it during the hot summer months. It's such an easy go-to look now and is so comfortable. These photos are really making me miss vacation and wishing I could take another one. But alas I am a grown adult woman and need to work to pay my bills.

Vacation Workout
Tuesday, August 23, 2016
Vacations are the best, perfect time to relax, sleep in and get some R n R. But that doesn't mean you can't do any sort of workout, and it also doesn't have to become an excuse. This circuit we did while on vacation this summer in BC, all it required was one set of small dumbbells. It was a great change from the heavy weights we'd been doing at home and was a great endurance based workout more geared to tone up the muscles.
1. Plank Fly 12per
Use light weight dumbell, I used 5lbs for these. Get into plank position from hands, ensure hips are level and then perform fly, bring weight under body then extend out and up with straight arm, pinch shoulder blade in back
2. Squat Jump 15x
Hold weights beside body, feet shoulder distance apart sit into feet and push straight up to jump. Ensure a soft landing and knees do not fall in while keeping chest up
3. Deadlift to Press 15x
Straight legs, hinge hips forward until you feel the pull in your hamstrings keep the back straight. Squeeze glutes to come to standing, press weights straight up overhead.
4. Curtsy Lunges 12per side
Start from standing, hold weights in front of body, bring one leg back behind the body and push back up to standing position, should feel this in the external hip/glute area.
5. Tricep Extension 15x
Start in a hinge position, with a nice flat back, fully extend elbows. Should feel this one in the back of the arms, do not move anything but the elbow joint.
6. Front to Side raise 10per
Light weight again, bring one weight in front, one to the side no higher than shoulder height. Bring straight back down and switch sides. This one is great for the shoulders!
Perform each exercise one after another for 4 circuits!
My Obsession

To say I've become obsessed with blush tones is putting it lightly. They're so damn summery! This purse started the obsession when I picked it up in June, ever since I've aquired Keds in the same shade, nail polish, lip stick, a romper & this dress. I never really notice that I've accumulated that much of the same shade until I see it all together. The heart wants what it want's I guess. Not only is the colour perfect on this dress, it has the best back on it. I guess that would be my second obsession of the the summer, strappy dress and shoes. And this outfit is the culmination of all the things I love!
You'll notice these photos look great too, that's because they're by Vickie. She's the bomb.

Day Hike Essentials
Friday, August 19, 2016
This past couple years I realized how much I enjoy hiking. It's a great way to get outside, enjoy the day and of course get in some exercise at the same time. The best part of where I live is it's just a 3 & a half hour drive to some seriously beautiful scenery to hike through. Jasper and Banff are both so scenic and it's a great way to get away even for a day trip or a weekend. Since I'm just getting into this too, I thought I'd put together a list of some essentials I've learned to pack along the way.
1. Adequate water. Seriously so important, my jug I lug around (jug-o-lug?) holds 2L, depends on the length of hike you're going on of course
2. Bug Spray, Sunscreen, Sunnies. Protect yourself against the elements!
3. Bear spray/bear bells. One can never be too safe, there were quite a few sightings this season, so we didn't take our chances
4. Snacks. I recommend Vega peanut butter protein bars because they're so good, also we try to bring veggies like carrots or fruits like bananas. Something quick and easy to keep you going.
5. Layer up! We started our hike at 9am and it was cool, halfway up it was smoldering hot and then when we hit the peak it was windy & chilly again.
6. Proper footwear. Some hikes are easier and your gym sneaks will be perfect for it, while others require proper footwear, I plan on investing in some boots next season so we can tackle some harder trails!
In the end it's all worth it for the views!

Witchy Woman

Outfit: Tank-Zara, Shorts-Winners, Kimono-Oak & Fort, Sandals-Red Ribbon, Necklaces-Stella & dot, Saraswati designs. Ring-Vintage, Watch-Fossil
When I went on holidays to BC last week I knew I wanted to take photos at what we like to call "the golden hour". It's so beautiful there I had the idea in my mind of how awesome they would look, and I am sure they would have, except we missed it just by a bit, so instead we have photos at dusk. Which kind of worked with the witchy woman theme I had going on with my layered necklaces and light kimono.
Sadly, this kimono was lost during this trip, left forgotten in a hotel room in Valemont, not to be returned. I am more sad than I should be over an article of clothing, I became weirdly attached to it, calling it momo. I think because it was the perfect lightweight article to throw over any summer dress or shorts and still feel put together. Alas, I will have to find another momo next year.
