The 90's Called....
Wednesday, August 29, 2018
Yeah the 90's called, and I answered. Resist I may, with all the chockers, crop tops and chunky shoes, I have fully given in to the fanny packs, layered shirts and clueless esc. outfits. God I love Clueless, and I am more than happy to look like an extra in that movie. This plaid dress is something I got from Simons recently (Darcy's birthday present to me) and I love it. Can't wait to wear it with a chunky sweater and boots!!
This dress isn't so trendy that I won't be able to hang onto it for a while. This bag also came with a chain so when the fanny fade dies down this little baby will still make a great crossbody number. And a plain white tee is always useful. I love being able to dip my toes into a trend with pieces that I'll still be able to hang onto. My ban really showed me that trendy pieces while fun aren't the best investment.

This tee has gotten probably the most play out of anything in my wardrobe. A plain white tee is a wardrobe hero, it does a lot of heavy lifting, and this one is too cute with the "my dog is my co-pilot" on it. It's true, he is my co pilot!
I almost didn't keep this leather skirt when I got it, didn't think I would get enough wear out of it. Oh boy, I was wrong. I've worn it countless times in countless ways. Paired with a simple tee it's more casual but often I'll dress it up for a night out with Darcy.
Can't be caught wearing my co-pilot shirt without my co-pilot! He's such a good boy, posing so nicely for these photos. Probably helped that he was very tired from our earlier dog park adventure! What a lucky dude.

What I've Learned From Not Shopping
Tuesday, August 21, 2018
3 long months ago I embarked on a journey, a journey to not shop! I decided to set the end date at my birthday August 20th, and the only time I wavered in that three months was to find a more appropriate one piece for family vacation. I have to admit I am proud of myself, as someone who was constantly buying, spending, getting something new.
Some lesson's I've learned over these past 3 months:
I have a lot of clothes.
I know most of you are thinking Duuuuuh, but the amount of times I've opened my closet and lamented about not having anything to wear before this was constant. It's probably because I wanted something new each time I delved into the depths of my closet. Not being able to get anything new forced me to reasses, and rewear all my pieces.
I saved a lot of money!!!
Again, this kind of seems like a no brainer. I even forgot to put it in this post. But yes cutting back on shopping helped me save which I often need help with. I definitely have cut back on any kind of mindless spending not just clothes related but even small things for the house, dog stuff and groceries. If I don’t really need it, I put it backI can be quite creative
I guess I had forgotten how I could mix and match and rewear one thing in so many different ways over the past few years. This has been a great lesson, give me one good piece and I'm gonna wear that baby to death!
Neutrals and basics are vital
I, not unlike a magpie, am easily distracted by shiny things, things with patterns, bold colours, feathers! This can lead to a closet full of very pretty things, but none of them go together or are able to be worn in many ways. So investing in basics, finding things that are good quality, that fit well and all go well together is going to be important to me.
Find the holes in your closet
Not literal holes, but items that will tie everything together. A little black dress for example, or the perfect cable knit cozy sweater, a pair of high waisted pants. Even a fun piece like a bright coat can be the perfect addition! For me what I'm looking for this fall: the perfect grey cozy sweater dress, a red tartan coat/sweater (which I think I've found)
I think a shopping ban is something I am going to be doing regularly, I am determined to try to buy thrift, second hand, vintage, and ethically made clothing. I think kicking my need for "new! Now!" is crucial to keep me on this bath too.

Vacation Style
Wednesday, August 15, 2018
We were blessed with some gorgeous weather on our BC vacation, before a lot of the wildfires started. It was 35 degrees, sunny and perfect for jumping in the lake! With weather that hot, simple dressing is the way to go, bodysuits + shorts.
I got this bodysuit over a year ago and it has been an excellent staple in my summer wardrobe. It's so simple but the roses applique makes it so much more special. Also these ripped denim shorts are basically all I've been wearing this summer. It's hard to believe summer is almost over too, it feels like it just started yesterday...I am not looking forward to wearing pants! How to Stay Fit on Holidays
Monday, August 13, 2018
Holidays are so much fun, but sometimes we all overdo it with the eating and drinks. For me, I want to come back from my vacation feeling relaxed, recharged, and not too bloated. It's all about balancing indulging with keeping healthy. There are so many ways to stay active and fit on holidays, here are some to try:
1. Paddle Boarding
Works on balance and core stability! The paddling also really works your shoulders, they will be burning after a while. I love paddle boarding, it's so much fun, very peaceful to be out on the lake exploring in a different way.
2. Go for a Hike
Luckily for us we live in an amazing country, super close to the mountains and there are so many trails to explore. There are some for every fitness level, ranging from 30 minute hikes to a few days of adventuring. Every spring, summer, and fall we go to the mountains a few times, and everytime I go and find a new hike for us to try. Some we've done a few times, because they're super scenic but it's so fun to try new ones all the time. We explored some really beautiful falls this last time, the hike is always worth the views.
3. Go Swimming
Swimming is a great workout! And if you're not a strong swimmer (like myself) I like to run and jump off the end of the dock and haul our selves back up. It's like doing a few pull-ups, and it's a great way to cool down when it's hot.
4. Do a Mobility Workout/Yoga
Easy peasy, you don't need any (or much) equipment and especially if you've been couped up in a car you're bound to be tight! Nothing better than a good 15-30 minutes spent stretching after a car ride, or after a hike or just to start the day right.
Double Duty
Thursday, August 9, 2018
See the thing I really like about one piece swimsuits is being able to wear them as a top for meandering about town! I've been a bikini fan for years, mostly to show off my battle wounds and let everyone know how tough I am. But I'm slowly being converted to the one piece, I now own two.
This one is one of the only times I've broken my shopping ban for the last two and a half months, I needed a one piece for this trip that was a bit less cheeky and wouldn't allow all my bits to fall out while doing water sports in front of Darcy's family. A pretty a okay reason, yes? I bought it at F21 which I don't love doing; however, all the environmentally sound shops are really expensive and I'm not allowed to spend money right now. So alas, I caved.

Hike Jasper: Whistler Mountain and Indian Ridge
Tuesday, August 7, 2018
Every year we make our way through BC to go hang out with Darcy's family in Merritt, on our way we have to stop in the mountains to do a hike. Not only is it a great way to break up the long drive but the mountains are so beautiful! How could one drive through them!
This hike is up past the skytram in Jasper, so you could pay some money and take the tram up then hike about 2km to the very top. OR you could use your legs and hike all the way up! This is what we decided to do, because we're cheap, we like exercise and our legs work.
Distance: Total 15.6 km, (out and back trail)
Elevation Gain: about 1200m
Time: Took us about 5 hours, stopping to eat a bit, take photos etc.
Difficulty: Moderate to hard, there were some really steep spots, and my legs were toasted afterwards. So sore the next day, which is always the sign of a good hike, yes?
We're so lucky to live so close to the mountains and get to explore all the time! I love this place!
