Recipe: Basil Pesto Pizza
Wednesday, June 8, 2016
Pizza is one of my all time favourite comfort foods, however I don't go for any old pizza. I haven't ordered pizza in in forever, instead I opt to make it myself with this super simple recipe. It's really easy to make fresh dough but when I'm even more pinched for time this is my go-to. It's delicious, and you can top it with just about anything, right now I'm obsessed with arugula and basil so that's the recipe I'm sharing.
Ingredients: 1 cup mushrooms, 1 cup arugula, basil pesto, goat cheese, garlic, 1 chicken breast, 2 gloves garlic, pizza crust (I often use whole wheat pita bread for this)
1. Dice thawed chicken breast into 1 inch cubes, saute with 1 tbsp olive oil and 2 gloves chopped garlic until cooked through
2. Use 1-2 tbsp basil pesto as base on pizza crust or pita bread, top with chicken, mushrooms and goat cheese sprinkled on top (add mozzarella on top if you like things cheesier)
3. Preheat oven to 350F, cook about 15-20 min
4. Top with fresh Arugla and enjoy! Goes great with a fresh garden salad and a glass of wine.
Stretch It Out
Monday, June 6, 2016
Stretching is an important part of any cool down routine post exercise; and while it's important many of us (myself at times included) forget to do it! This is a great way to bring your heart rate back to normal, lengthen muscles after they've been used & it just feels great. I put together a quick stretching routine that can be done in about 10 minutes absolutely anywhere and is great for after a run.
1. Chest and Upper Trap stretch. Bring hands behind back clasp hands together if available, stretch arms down and back. Should feel this in the front of your chest and upper shoulders, hold for 20-30second can repeat 1-2x
2. Tricep Stretch. Bring one arm up and place behind head, can use other arm to press down, hold 20-30s for 1-2x
3. Quadricep Stretch. Can use a support as pictured if needed, or not to challenge balance. Clasp onto foot and pull your foot towards your bum, should feel it in the front of your leg. Hold 20-30s for 1-2x
4.Standing Hamstring stretch. In a split position, straighten out front leg and bring your torso over this leg, if you can place your hands on the ground do so. Feel free to use your thigh or shin to support yourself here, should feel it in the back of your front leg. Hold 20-30s 1-2x
5. Forward Fold, back and hamstring stretch. Feet should be wider than shoulder width, hinge from hips to reach as far forward as you can without pain, but you should feel the stretch in the hamstrings and low back. Some may be unable to reach the ground while others may be able to place hands flat on ground. Hold for 20-30s 1-2x

6. Side Body stretch. Feet shoulder distance apart, place one hand on hip and bend to that side while bringing the other arm up and over to the opposite side. Should feel this all the way through that extended side. Hold 20-30s 1-2x

7. Groin and Hamstring stretch. Bring leg up as high as it will go, keep straight but do not lock the knee out. Should feel this in the inside of the leg, you may feel it in the back of the leg as well. Hold 20-30s 1-2x
8. Warrior Pose, hip flexor and chest opener. Feet far from one another in a split position, come down into a lunge by bending into the front leg, try to keep the back leg straight. You should feel this in the front of the back leg. Bring arms up and over head with a slight backbend. Hold 20-30s 1-2x

This past spring I realized I had a gap in my wardrobe for seasonal outer wear. I had the classic denim jacket, a blazer, but nothing dressier and everything was super neutral. I began my search for the perfect coat and scoured the internet (but mostly blogs and zaras website) until I spotted this beauty. The colour caught my eye, because how could it not? Also I was drawn to the oversized fit of it; majority of my pieces are all fitted, so I knew it was like nothing I had.
I thought about it, and thought about it. I am making a conscious effort on only adding pieces to my wardrobe I'll really wear and get a lot of use from. I decided it was worth the investment and then was quickly corrected that in order for something to be an investment you have to make money off it. Whatever, it's return value is compliments and the fact that when I put it on my mood is instantly lifted. It pairs so well with neutrals, and I am so obsessed with how it looks with mint that I found a blue wall to match.

Outfit: Dress-Aritzia, Jacket-Dynamite, Shoes-Winners, Skull Necklace-Saraswati Designs, Bag- Adventures in Fashions closet , Knuckle rings-Noul
It doesn't happen often, but sometimes I wear really impractical shoes. Most days, you'll find me in Keds, or some form of running shoes but every now & then I strap on my big girl shoes. A change of shoe can change your perspective. Literally. because I'm 5'2 and the world looks drastically different at 5'6 or so.
I've been dying over the trend of super strappy flats and shoes, so when I spotted these beauties at Winners I had to have them. My practical side said "No, you live in yoga pants, strappy heels don't work with that". So, I went home empty footed and thought about them every day for a week & half. Lucky for me they were still there. Sometimes the feet want what the feet want!
Most people come home after a long week and put on relaxing clothes, I come home from a long week and put on real people clothes. I can't help it when I wear a sports bra & spandex most days. My body craves real fabric, like this cute comfortable dress from Aritzia. I foresee being a stable summer piece with that bright punch of blue & lightweight fabic.

Outdoor Tabata
Perform each of these exercises for 40s on 20s rest 6-8 sets. With the exercises doing 1 leg at a time, perform 40s each leg
This is meant to get the heart rate going!
1. Step ups
With bench you can perform a step up, want to ensure engaging glutes by fully extending leg when you step up and squeeze the bum. You can alternate, or do all repetitions on one side then switch. To make this one more challenging you can increase the tempo or add a hop in at the top (so step up & hop)

2. Single Leg split squat
3. Bench dips
Great for the triceps! Place arms just wider than hip width, lower body down with legs straight (can bend them if this position is too difficult) come down low and then extend elbows to straighten arms. Both feet on the ground or if you want to challenge yourself lift one leg up.
4. Push ups
Can be done with a decline to make it harder or an incline to make it easier (second photo). Ensure core & bum are tight, lower chest to ground and then push straight up. Do not let lower back sag or strain neck by bringing it down first. Whole body should move as one!
5. Knee drives
Again can be done from incline or decline depending on fitness level. Come to a plank position so core and glutes are both tight. Kick back one leg and twist it over to opposite elbow, ensuring pelvis remains stable (meaning: hips don't hike up or drop down).
